Treatments Not Proven to be Beneficial in the Management of Pit Viper Envenomation1:

  • Cutting and/or suctioning of the wound
  • Ice
  • NSAIDs
  • Prophylactic antibiotics
  • Prophylactic fasciotomy
  • Routine use of blood products
  • Steroids (except for allergic phenomena)
  • Tourniquets
